This is not like me

Caleb is asleep, and I am tired, very tired. But I cannot go to bed. Why? Because the dishes aren't done, and the folding isn't done, and the finances aren't done, and all the other details are not done. But I cannot do them, because I am so tired. Christian is in Chicago and when he is here we do these things together, well we divide and conquor, but together. But he is gone till 2am Friday, he left at 7am today (well for church and from there to the airport). I bet he is tired too. We had a very long meeting yesterday and went to bed late last night, and he found out at 7:45 am that he needed to preach at 10am, today. I have had Caleb all day, and church, and a meeting, and responsibilities, and errands, and groceries, and there is so much more to do. But I want to go to bed, but I can't because the dishes aren't done and there is a mound of folding sitting on my bed, and a pile of papers sitting on my table. So I am blogging...

Tuesdays with the Piersmas

My friend Janel just had her second daughter. We, Caleb and I, are driving to Solvang on Tuesdays to help Janel adjust to life with two, and to hang out with our dear friends, Janel, her eldest daughter Ella, and her newest daughter, Lucie. Caleb and Ella love to hang out. Janel, makes being the mom of a 3 year old and a newborn look easy! I don't know that she needs my help much, but I enjoy our times together.
Caleb had a lot of fun today. I pulled Caleb and Ella in the wagon and we went to this great park in Solvang. They ate snacks, spotted animals, and sang songs on the way. Ella is sweet with him.

We, the Piersmas and the Schaleskys, joked when I was pregnant with Caleb, that Caleb and Ella will get married one day and that we were arranging their marriage. It may have been prophetic. They love to hang out and both were sad the last two Tuesdays that they couldn't take their naps together.

They climbed into Ella's bed and started reading stories. Caleb cried when I said it was time to go home (back to Santa Barbara), and begged to nap with Ella.

It is so fun having a good friend that also has a child that is good friends with my child. God knew what he was doing when he orchestrated our friendship!

First Blog Attempt

Dear Friends and Family,

I am hoping to start updating Adventures with Caleb on a weekly basis. This will be a fun adventure in itself if I can learn how to do this!

Caleb and I have had many adventures in his almost 22 months of life. The ones that come quickly to mind are: the NICU, the Zoo, the beach, exploring on our property, trips to see family, Mexico, England, and playing with friends.

I loved teaching, but I love being a mom too. Caleb has brought immeasurable joy to my life (and massive sleep deprivation) and I am so thankful for him. It is fun to start contemplating a sibling for Caleb... maybe God will bless us with another precious gift this year. I must say, all in his perfect timing though. I think these last 22 months with Caleb has brought me to a much more balanced place in my parenting, and I am thankful for the perspective I now have.
